Ivins Cemetery - Burial Information

The following was included in a Pioneer Cemetery Marker Dedicatory Service program that was held on June 13, 1970. The program was compiled and copyrighted by Frances Carter Yost (1914-1978). It is being reproduced here with the permission of her son G. Fred Yost, Jr.
The thirteen page program includes history of the area and the cemetery, statements and quotes of interest from several long time citizens, and a map of the cemetery's location as well as a layout of the burial sites.

WHAT IS KNOWN OF THOSE INTERRED IN IVINS CEMETERY

No. 12.    BRIGHAM YOUNG ADAMSON.  Born 8 October 1867, Died 17 May 1893, are the dates given.  However oldtimers remember him after these dates, and it is questionable, just when he died.  He was born at Spanish Fork, Utah, died at Ivins.  His father Adam Adamson, and mother's maiden name is Furlong. He lived a bacheler life.

No. 6.    JANE BANKS  Born and died 16 June 1906 at her parents home in Ivins.   Daughter of Joseph Banks and Jane clark Angus Banks.

No. 7.    BABY BOY BANKS:  Stillborn son of William Merrill Banks and Inez Anderson Banks.  Born 25 November 1922 at Talmadge, or Ivins, Idaho.

No. 16.    SONNY CHANDLER was a four year old child of James and Jenny Gunnell Chandler.  He was buried before 1915.  Jenny's father was George Gunnell.

No. 1.    ELOISA CORNIA.  Born 11 February 1888 at Woodruff, Utah. died age 17, at Ivins.  Daughter of Daniel Carter Cornia and Samantha Jane Dixon Cornia, age 17. Her twin sister Embrosia was buried at Chesterfield cemetery at the age of 12. A sister Doria Cornia, and the mother are buried  in the Grace Cemetery.

No. 2.    VINDEL CORNIA. (Born) 27 April 1902 Salt Lake City, Utah, died 25 Mar. 1917  at the age of 17.  His parents Enoch Cornia and Caroline Larsen Cornia.

No. 3.    MARY ANN CORNIA.  Born 3 June 1922 at Ivins, Idaho, died 22 March 1923, being ten months old.  Her parents are John Melvin Cornia and Kate Cameron Cornia.

No. 8.    'SON' HALVERSON.  A one month premature baby boy, born to Niels Halverson and Ann Beck Halverson.  Born and died at Ivins.  Annalease Halverson Holbrook is a sister to this little one.

No. 14.    CARBIN JOHNSON.  Age 34.  Born 25 Nov. 1874 at Rangervilla Iceland. Died the 14th of December 1908 at Ivins.  Father, Jon Ingimundson (known as John Thorgenson) and Thordis Thorbjarnadotter (known as Grandma Johnson)

No. 9.    EDNA JOHNSON.  Age three at death.  Daughter of Therber and Hildie Arnson Johnson.  (little granddaughter to Grandma Johnson.

No. 13.    GUNDRUN JOHNSON, died at age 39.  Born 15 January 1865 at Rangervilla, Iceland.  Died at Ivins April 1904 at age 39. Her parents are Jon Ingimundson (known as John Thorgenson) and Thordis Thorbjarnadotter (Known as Grandma Johnson) Gundrun was married, but divorced and chose to take back her maiden name. She is the mother of David Johnson, formally of Ivins, Later of McCammon, now deceased.

No. 15.    THORDIS THORBJARNSDOTTER.  Better known as Grandma Johnson, died at age 92. Born 18 April 1836 at Rangervilla, Iceland.  Died 28 March 1928 at Ivins.  Her father was Thorbiorn Johnson and her mother Thordis Gunmundson.  (it is interesting to note the partronymic system of naming is in order at this time.

No. 10.    ENOCH JOHNSON.  Age 64.  Born at Rangervilla, Iceland and died at Ivins 10 January 1940.  Parents are : Jon Ingimundson (known also as John Thorgenson) and Thorids Thorbjarnsdotter (known as Grandma Johnson)

No. 18.    CLINT KENNEDY.  This young man came from Iowa to see his sister Mrs. Marion Wilson and died of pneumonia.  Burial death is 11 Nov. 1911.  He is an uncle to Alice Wilson of Soda Springs.  He never married.

No. 20.    IDA MAY KNOWLES.  Born 23 Oct. 1900 at Green River, Wyoming. Died in March of 1918 at Ivins.  Her parents are John James Knowles and Minnie May Dodge Knowles.  (She is a sister to West Knowles.)

No. 19.    OLIVE MABEL PECK  Born 13 August 1915 and died the 16th of August, three days later.  Daughter of Olive Knowles Peck, and Everett Peck.   (The mother is a sister of West Knowles)  The mother is now Mrs. Leonard  Goodsell and in 1970 resides at Newton, Utah.

No. 11.    'BABY' PERKINS.  This was a stillborn child of Ezra Perkins, and Cora his wife.  They were people who came from the South.
